Skills Building Session with Ashesi MasterCard Foundation 2nd Year Scholars
On Tuesday, 5th May 2015, the ARK Consortium Team facilitated another Skills Building session at Ashesi University with the 2nd year scholars of the MasterCard Foundation Program, an initiative to educate and prepare young people, particularly from Africa, to lead change and make a positive social impact in their communities. The session aimed to prepare the young scholars prior to interning with major companies all over the world.
This particular workshop was very interactive and involved all participants. It began with an introduction by the facilitators, Yasmin Boama, Genevieve Puni, and Rita Kusi, immediately followed by an ice breaker where students got to share two truths and one lie about themselves. The winner of the ice breaker go the chance to become team leader duirng another high energy ice breaker, which took place outside on the Ashesi grounds. Some students were also hand selected to participate in role play exercises alongside the facilitators. Such role play exercisies included:
an office board meeting, which addressed the different types of personalities at the workplace and how to deal with those personalities.
proper attire and grooming on your first day at work.
do's and don'ts at company holiday parties.
MasterCard scholars who attended the workshop received an in depth PowerPoint presentation on communication, networking, elevator pitch, business etiquette and personal branding. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and received feedback sheets after the workshop. Follow ups will be conducted during and post internships to measure the effectiveness of these trainings.
