Skills Building Session with Ashesi MasterCard Foundation 2nd Year Scholars
On Tuesday, 6th May 2014, the ARK Consortium Team held a Skills Building workshop at Ashesi University with the 2nd year scholars of the MasterCard Foundation Program, an initiative to educate and prepare young people, particularly from Africa, to lead change and make a positive social impact in their communities. The session aimed to prepare the young scholars prior to disbursing them to intern with major companies all over the world.
The workshop began with an introduction by the facilitators, Yasmin Boama, Genevieve Puni, and Rita Kusi, where they shared their background, discussed their companies, and the ARK mission and vision. The students were then put into groups and asked to conclude on group names, which represent their ideals and their expectations for the workshop.
MasterCard scholars who attended the workshop received an in depth PowerPoint presentation on communication- the types, key elements, advantages and disadvantages as well as its relevance to achieving career success. Students were educated on how to craft an effective elevator pitch, in addition, to internal and external networking opportunities and proper business etiquette guidelines.
The workshop was informative and very interactive with well-received feedback from the students and organizers. It provided students a summary of what to expect while interning, as well as, prepare them to be leaders of change in their communities.
